Don A. Rouzan is the founder and lead counsel of Don A. Rouzan & Associates, LLC.  Don began his legal career in the commercial litigation practice group of one of New Orleans’ largest and most seasoned law firms.  In addition to practicing in the areas of business torts and contract disputes, Don also worked significantly in the area of toxic tort defense, including asbestos litigation.  Don also worked on a number of cases involving construction litigation defense and Hurricane Katrina related business interruption and property damage claims.

Don gained excellent experience working under some of New Orleans’ most highly regarded attorneys at its most respected law firms.  During this time, Don represented clients as varied as small to mid-sized local businesses to large international conglomerates.  Don also developed and refined very effective trial strategies and practice techniques that continue to benefit his clients with excellent dispute resolutions both before trial and as a result thereof.

After his successes at major law firms, Don went on to represent his clients successfully at Don A. Rouzan & Associates, LLC. Don’s clients include construction, engineering, and property management firms, along with a major railroad company, a public utility, a local municipality, and a number of small to mid-sized businesses.

A significant motivator for Don establishing his own law firm was to maximize his ability to truly become a community lawyer - to have the ability to service his community in addition to servicing the business community.  Beginning with the pinning ceremony on his first day at Howard University School of Law, Don was taught the words of Charles Hamilton Houston: "A lawyer's either a social engineer or ... a parasite on society."  Don A. Rouzan & Associates, LLC offers Don and the other attorneys there an opportunity to strive to become the former.

Don received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts/History from the University of New Orleans and his Juris Doctorate degree from the Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C. While at Howard, Don served as treasurer of the Black Law Students Association and Co-captain of the Charles Hamilton Houston National Moot Court Team.  Don, along with his moot court partner, were the First Place winners of the Catholic University School of Law’s 2002 Sutherland Cup National Moot Court Competition.

Don is licensed to practice in all Louisiana State and Federal Courts, including the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Louisiana and the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit.  Mr. Rouzan is a member of the Louisiana, New Orleans, American, and National Bar Associations.
